Our History

Rod began his career in the civil engineering testing laboratory industry in 1998, working in a laboratory accredited to SABS 0259 — the predecessor to ISO/IEC 17025. Over the years, he has contributed to the accreditation journeys of numerous laboratories through roles in consulting, laboratory management, and co‑founding testing facilities.

Key milestones:

• 1998–2002: Laboratory work under SABS 0259 and early editions of ISO/IEC 17025.
• 2002: Began consulting as Rod Raw Consulting, supporting laboratories with ISO/IEC 17025 implementation.
• 2010: Co‑founded Strata Lab, a civil engineering testing laboratory.
• 2012: Joined Contest as a partner in a concrete testing laboratory.
• 2020: Returned to consulting full‑time.
• 2021: Nita joined the practice, forming a strong consulting team.
• 2025: Transitioned to the BKAN brand — symbolising a lighthouse guiding laboratories toward accreditation.
